From the moral point of view it is a very scandalous movie. From the moral point of view it is a very scandalous movie. What can we demand from the film, in which as refrain is repeated a slogan of depraved Bohemia: "Freedom, beauty, love!..."

In this list is out of place the word "Truth".

In short, we can imagine a love triangle: the first man is a handsome youth with a poetic gift, and, above all, so pretty fresh in a freethinking Paris; the second is not a bad chap too, although is not so original, but a fabulous rich duke; both are crazy about the most chic courtesan of Moulin Rouge.

Splendid Satine is a sensual girl, but she has ambitions. ThatТs why she chooses love of the first one and a wallet of the second. And now a sweet couple without a qualm of conscience takes the poor rich man in, pulling out money from him for their grandiose show.

No wonder that to the end the unfortunate man went crazy with the offence...

All that takes place against a background of enchanting songs and dances, seasoned with clownery and we are proposed to sympathize with impudent cheats.

Well, the situation is ambiguous. The authors seemed to understand that and decided to go without a happy end. Thank God they had tact enough to turn things around, so the sufferer duke will be not imprisoned because of tragic denouement.

David is in this movie in a company of offended too. He plays a great poet, who was driven back from a creative Olympus by a new favourite of fretful Satine.

But for all that, as a rule, David is not recognized by anybody without proper tips.

First, his role is annoying small and, second, to recognize Wenham in it is, you know, a test in observation. Here are actor's aerobatics.
