Murray Whelan's life is quite a permanent accident.
If he will decide to repair a roof, be sure, it will fall on his head, if he will climb a ladder, be sure, it will crash down under his feet.
He doesn't look respectable, his car creaks like an old boot, he carries his papers in a plastic shopping bag.
His unprincipled boss always charges him with a killing work and his wife is so tired of all that having slammed the door she has gone away with their little son.
And on top of it all he is fallen by enigmatic dead bodies and pursued by mysterious maimers.
But Murray doesn't consider himself as a looser. He is always of good cheer, full of optimism and is disposed not only to get out of all difficulties but also to drag out his boss.
So a charming hero of a literary series by the Australian writer Shane Maloney appears before us. The movies "Stiff" and
"The Brush Off" based on the Maloney's books are filled with picturesque characters, black humour and represent a sharp political satire, veiled by a detective plot in which center is always absent-minded and funny, but purposeful and fearless Murray Whelan, adviser of the eclectic politician Angelo Agnelli from the Australian state Victoria government.
"Stiff" for example touches upon a difficult subject of ethnic relations. A dead body was found in the freezer at the meatworks, belonging to an influential Turk.
Minister of Ethnic Affairs, Agnelli gapes for hushing up a scandal, which threatens to his successful election campaign.
This honourable mission fell to Murray's lotЕ with all its misadventures.
