POOR MAN'S ORANGE

A sequel of an earlier shot movie Harp in the South.

It is a typical melodrama which is not alien to the Australians. The events are developing after the Second World War, when, as a matter of fact, a breaking of old Australia begins and country starts its slow but certain moving on the way to its present-day face.

In the centre of the plot is the story of the family Darcy and everyday's easily cognate collisions of every sort and kind. The state of Darcy's affairs is of course not very well. The eldest daughter, Roie, has married the half-breed Charlie contrary to her mother's will. The couple lives in misery, but is waiting for a child. But mother-in-law soon must go over to other problems: her husband, Roie's father, found a young mistressЕ In addition to that Roie died in childbirth.

Her younger sister, Dolour, gives up the school, in order to take the place of a mother for her nephews, it happens that she has to take place of a wife for Charlie. But inasmuch as she cannot be for him what deceased Roie was, Dolour is that "Poor Man's Orange", which is not very tasty and ripe, but it exists and there is no other. That is all properly speaking.

Ah! DavidЕ For his fans the movie is interesting from the historical point of view, in the fact of its existence. David appears in the scene of a party. He looms up for a few seconds among other guests. No one close-up picture, no one expressive mise en scene.
